Legally, Trump could totally try running a second time. Having said that, I don't see it as being too plausible. It technically could happen, though. They'd probably just field a different candidate, such as my arch-nemesis Larry.

I think it's fairly unlikely that Trump would be in a position to run as President again after losing a November election. Quite apart from the stigma of failure, Trump getting through four more years without being in legal hot water?

If Biden is going to be a one term president if he wins

Then for the next coming election

Could there be a plausible possibility of Trump trying again or would the Republicans field another candidate?

IIRC he's actually said that he intends to be a one-term President.

He would be what, 78? I think at that point, he is probably going to retire.

And to be honest, I doubt Trump wants to go through four more years of being president. He will deny it loudly, of course, but I think he will be perfectly happy with going back to reality TV, golf, and financial malfeasance in peace and quiet, if at all possible.

As for Biden, I think it is still important for him to have a strong personality and clear policy plan. He does have to run the country for four years, after all, and repair public relations at home and abroad. You're not going to achieve that by being quiet and status quo, I think.

On being a one term president, I think that is a great idea, actually. It removes the pressure of re-election, and allows him to make tough decisions without having to worry so much about ratings and poll numbers. If you run for just one term, you can make the unpopular decisions that are necessary, rather than placating the base by compromising.

I personally doubt Trump is going out to be in peace. Mueller basically all but stated that as soon as Trump wasn't president, he'd have an investigation team on his ass.

More cynically, I wouldn't be surprised if Trump tried a call to arms to his supporters if he lost.

If he loses he will first of all deny that he lost. The Secret Service will probably have to physically escort him out the door while he rants about the election being invalid due to "voter fraud" which he will continue to do until he's in his grave. Don't expect him to ever officially concede defeat. Hell, Roy Moore still hasn't on 凯特和威廉anything凯特和威廉 he ever ran for.

But I don't expect him to run again because he'll be too busy trying to stay out of jail. Which he probably will but it will consume a lot of time and effort. And if he does I don't expect him to get any support from the leaders of the Republican Party. They currently both hate and fear him. Once he loses the fear will go away. They'll turn on him like the hyenas on Scar.

Former Senior Advisor Dan Pfeiffer and Deputy Chief of Staff Alyssa Mastromonaco of the Obama Administration did their last VP podcast this week and continued their conversation about what they think Biden is looking for in his running mate. Based on their experiences with Biden they think he's going to look for someone he can trust to hand off power to for certain administration priorities. Obama tasked Biden as his point man for negotiating with the Senate, and implementing the recession recovery policy, and the Iraq wind down policy. Notice how these play to Biden's strengths as a legislative deal-maker and a foreign policy wonk. Is Biden looking for a deputy to execute his administration's economic agenda? Maybe he's leaning towards Warren then. Is he going to task the VP with fixing our foreign relations? Susan Rice would be a contender.

They were very dismissive of selecting a VP to win a state or region, pointing out the evidence is scant and they could think of numerous examples where it failed.

They were more supportive of Joe Biden's Joe Biden being someone who fits his narrative. If Biden is running on government experience and "Make America the Obama Era Again!" then there are plenty of people who fit that mold. If Biden is molding his image as a transitional figure and a "bridge" to the next generation then his VP will probably be a younger, fresher face he can pass the torch to.

You know, after the roller coaster of a primary we did all last year I am rather amused that we've all tacitly accepted the fact that in choosing Biden we're getting a two-for-one deal since he's probably personally going to choose the next leader of the party.

        Nevertheless, you must persist.

In Philadelphia, a long time State Senator has been toppled by a democratic socialist insurgent with ties to the Democratic Socialists of America. Hopefully, this will be the start of more and more leftist candidates displacing Democrats who are less ambitious and solidaristic.

Trump will never allow himself to be in such a position where the Secret Service throwing him out on his ass might become a headline. I 100% expect Trump to retreat to the "Southern White House" Mar-a-Lago and then claim the election was rigged and that he's Totes Actual President for Realsies.

Especially since Florida isn't trying to build a legal case against him.

That was always the deal though. Biden is the closest you can come to the physical incarnation of a continuum candidate, Biden is a vote for more of the Obama stuff until you can pry someone else in, in like 9 or 17 years.

Trump probably wouldn?t try and run in 2024 if he?s in the middle of trying to stay out of legal trouble, my focus is more on if he?s already failed to stay out of legal trouble.

If Trump is in jail come 2024 he might try and run again as a plan to get out of jail, or push Ivanka to run so she could pardon him.

If Trump looses in November then the 2024 Republican primary will be very messy, the ?moderate? faction under Romney is liable to put someone forward (unlikely to be Romney himself due to age), the ?quiet party aloud? faction that Trump has cultivated is liable to put at least one person forward (possibly a member of the Trump family, or maybe Steve King or Joe Arpaio) and the central mass are likely to put people like Cruz and Rubio forward again.

I suspect that Ivanka or any other far-right women would underperform Trump with the Republican base, because the sexism is deeply ingrained in them.

Republican leadership are liable to push for the party to put forward more varied candidates with the same platform, we saw in with Romney and his ?binders full of women?, we see it with the talk about Nikki Haley, we saw it with the party machine pushing Rubio in 2016.

It will be deeply fascinating in 2024 if we have a race between Haley, Ivanka, Rubio and someone like Tucker Carlson or Steve King, I?d expect the Republican Party?s internal power-brokers to fail the same way they did with Rubio in 2016, but who knows.

Ivanka is not the member of the Trump clan I would be worried about. If she were to run, I don't think she can run using the same playbook as daddy. She would have to tack a bit more to the centre, in so much as the dog-whistles would actually become subtle rather than the air-horns we have today. That's just male privilege at work: a woman can't be unhinged and angry and for Ivanka to start doing so would be such a break in character it would seem unnatural. It would be an act, leading to Trump's base doubting and decrying her.

No, the heir to the Trump wing of the Republican party would be a Tucker Carlson / Trump Jr ticket. Tucker has a similar brand that Trump did of having a national platform that plays to a hard-core white nationalist base. Trump Jr has jumped feet first into the right wing fever swamp such that it is reported that Trump Sr has had to rein him back.

I mean, they super went for Sarah Palin as VP, which while VP is a "safer" spot because it's still a man in the top seat, she could have easily become President given McCain's age and health - who knows how the stresses of Presidency would have made stuff worse?
